MORE THAN FOOTBALL
Our More Than Football (MTF) project is needs-led and delivered by the community, for the community. The goal is to build relationships with a range of community groups, with a view to support them to get moving and eventually participate in some sort of physical activity involving football.

There are many health and wellbeing benefits to being active, however we understand there are often barriers to participation. Our team work with community groups and partners to devise innovative ideas to combat barriers and provide opportunities for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

This project will support the Moving Rotherham partnership in delivering transformational behaviour change. As a whole, we aim for ‘people in Rotherham to be proud to live in and contribute to stronger, thriving communities by engaging with physical activity or sport’.
We aim to target new audiences in places with high levels of physical inactivity. The More than Football initiative has made a pledge to residents of Eastwood, Kimberworth and Maltby, offering weekly opportunities to access football related activity within a 10 minute walk from their home.
Sessions include but are not exclusive to; soccercise, zumba, walking netball and walking football. Using a supportive, step by step approach, the plan will see these groups progressing into football-based activities. All activities will be light-hearted, sociable and fun. Once engaged, participants will be retained by giving them ownership of their own MTF experience. We are open to new self-sustainable ideas from community groups.
This project is currently commissioned until 2025 and funded by Sport England and Football Foundation.
